Working against the negative effects of globalization – struggle for a sustainable future

As manufacturers our obligations are many: human rights, working conditions, environmental issues and corruption. Unibrands co-worker Anne Broström works exclusively with these issues: we strive to make sure our products are produced fairly. We give our customers the same high reliability as major German, Dutch and Nordic fashion chains, since we work with the same independent inspection procedures they do.

Our ambition is clear: anyone who buys our clothes can rely on the manufacture of our products doing no harm to people or the environment.

In 2005, we signed the UN’s “Global Compact” initiative which states ten principles forming the foundation of our business conduct – and that of over 8000 other businesses – on a globalized market.

The ambition of Western corporations is to trade fairly; the flaws are found in their systems for confirming that the reports saying that all is fairly done are worth even the paper they are written on.

Unibrands is a member of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) and, together with over 600 European businesses, we work according to a common Code of Conduct toward the factories where our products are manufactured. The Code of Conduct is based on the conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the UN declaration on human rights, children’s rights and the elimination of all kinds of discrimination.

Our place is at the front of the development when it comes to control of chemicals used in the production process.

The REACH legislation was passed in 2007 and puts high demands on our ability to control the use of chemicals in the factories where we produce. Unibrands participate on a regular basis in forums monitoring the research field and work with experts to make sure we are always one step ahead – never left behind.
